James started CrossFit in 2013, coming from a rugby background, he was looking for a strength and conditioning programme to use in his off-season and hasn’t looked back since.
“The CrossFit prescription of ‘constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement’ is something that was, and still is, hugely appealing to me. I hated going to the gym and following the same dull routine so CrossFit was the perfect solution for me.”
Shortly after joining CrossFit Derry it wasn’t long before James started shadowing the coaches in classes. Showing a keen interest in weightlifting, he started to devote time to educating himself on everything snatch and clean & jerk related, from here James took over the Barbell Club at CrossFit Derry. Shortly after he completed his CF lvl 1 in Belfast he became part of the Crossfit Derry coaching staff on a part time basis.
Since starting CrossFit, James has spent time competing both as an individual and in team formats across Ireland. He has also spent time on the other side of the comp floor, helping to run a competition in CrossFit Derry at the start of 2017.
James has spent time training people of various different abilities, from County GAA athletes, to school teachers, he is aware their needs and goals vary and how to apply the appropriate training dose. He has a clear, undeniable passion for simply making people better, and improving human movement. “I love to see people achieve something they once thought unattainable”
CrossFit brings people from all walks of life together, CrossFit Perpetua is the perfect example of this; a community filled with like-minded individuals from across the globe, looking to workout and have a good time while doing so.
